You might have read my blog about the Roma Pass, which explains what it’s for and who it works best for. If not, here ya go: Roma Pass or Pass
They have recently started re-offering another type of Pass called the Roma & Piu Pass (“Rome & More Pass”). This one costs just a few Euros more, at 27 Euros per Pass. The main difference is that the Roma Pass is for those looking to explore just Rome (the word “just” here is relative, as you can spend a decade here and not see it all!), and visiting some sites/museums within Rome. The Roma & Piu Pass works in all the same ways: valid for 3 days unlimited use of Metro/Buses/Trams, good for admission into the first 2 sites/museums you visit, but additionally the Roma & Piu Pass is valid for some COTRAL buses which go outside of Rome to places such as Tivoli/Villa D’Este.
Both cards are NOT valid for use of trains (regional or not) or transport like buses which go to the airports. There are no such passes at the moment which will cover both public transport as well as TrenItalia trains or buses which go between either airports.
Here’s a very good breakdown of the two cards and their benefits via the official site, for more details.
Here’s the English version of the COTRAL website, so that you can check out what buses they have and where they go.
So, Roma & Piu’ Pass or pass?
YES- If you will be in Rome using public transit for at least a few days and also taking a trip outside of Rome to some place such as Tivoli, using a COTRAL bus (and of course entering at least 2 sites or museums).
NO- If you will not be going outside of Rome via COTRAL. In this case you might consider a regular Roma Pass. Or Pass all together!
