This Vatican by Night Tour is a unique opportunity to visit the Vatican in the evening hours. Just recently, the Vatican Museums has opened its doors on Friday evenings to regal us the chance to spend time with their prized art collection. We will visit the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Square. (Please note that St. Peter's Basilica is closed at this time so we will not enter.)
Inside the Vatican Museums, you'll be surrounded by both ancient masterpieces such as the Belvedere Apollo, a Roman second century copy from a Greek bronze original possibly by Leochares (330-320 B.C.), and Renaissance masterpieces such as the Mass of Bolsena by Raphael. Before silently revelling your senses inside the Sistine Chapel (there is no talking allowed inside this holy site), your Presto guide will recap the Biblical Story of Creation, the Downfall of Humanity, and the Story of Noah, which Michelangelo depicted in his world-renowned frescos. Whilst exploring the making of the Sistine Chapel, we will take a peek into the politics of the Vatican City's art commissions and get to know the artists' with the help of your guide's favorite anecodotes.
We will then take a stroll down to St. Peter's Square where you will see the piazza lit up under the night sky. This is a sight not to be missed! Check out renowned architect, Bernini's, optical illusions in St. Peter's Square and visit the spot where St. Peter himself was crucified. This area became the very foundation of the Catholic Church with Peter being its very first Pope.
