Our Rome Shore Excursion for cruise passengers makes meeting the ancient city a cinch. A Presto Guide meets you at Civitavecchia Port, accompanies you throughout the whole day visiting inside the Colosseum, the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica. Once we arrive in Rome, we will explore the city with you from approximately 10 AM to 4 PM. Your guide then accompanies you to the train station and sees you off on your train which will get you back to your ship with plenty of time to spare before your ship's departure.

Once you arrive in Rome, we will bring to you see one of the new seven wonders of the world, and Rome's famous host to gladiatorial contests and public spectacles--the Roman Colosseum. Your guide will give you a breakdown of the significance of this stadium during the Roman Empire's glory years and the implications it still carries for Romans today.

After visiting ancient Roman history at the Colosseum and recharging with a brief lunch stop, we will trot over to the Vatican City and explore the Catholic epicenter of the world. The Vatican City boasts a stellar roster of artwork. Master artists set the stage for the history of Rome and the Catholic Church. Michelangelo's stunning Sistine Chapel ceiling, Raphael's world renowned paintings, architect Bramante's St. Peter's Basilica, and Bernini's St. Peter's Square lead us into the world of centuries shed light on the creation of the Vatican City. We'll explore the role of the Vatican as the capital of the Catholic Church, anecdotes of Popes, stories of saints, lasting legends, notable scandals and secrets that have lived inside the smallest country in the world, the Vatican City.

Finally we will visit St. Peter's Basilica, named after St. Peter, the first Pope and the modern day patron saint of Rome. Inside the Basilica we will find another of Michelangelo's masterpieces, his sculpture, the Pieta' and more.

* Note that the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel are closed on Sundays so we will visit St. Peter's Square, St. Peter's Basilica, and St. Angel's Castle instead. We welcome your special requests and are happy to customize this tour to your liking if you would like to substitute other sites for the sites listed above.
** If you would prefer to travel by car and hire a driver for the day, we would be happy to arrange that for you. The additional cost would be 550 Euro (for up to 6 passengers). In this case, your driver would pick you up directly from Civitavecchia Port and your Presto Guide would meet you directly at the Colosseum. If you would prefer this option, simply make a note when making your reservation and we will arrange the driver for you.
